Electric vehicle (EV) drivers will soon have more options to fast charge their cars on their next road trip in the province of British Columbia.
In an announcement this morning, the federal government through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program is investing $1.1 million to install 22 new DC fast chargers in the southern interior part of the province. The investment will be matched by an additional $1.1 million investment from FortisBC.
The province’s CleanBC Go Electric program will be adding another $550,000, for a total project cost of $2.7 million.
“Expanding our charging networks means even more drivers can confidently adopt electric vehicles and enjoy travelling traveling within B.C.’s beautiful southern interior. We’re proud to work with government and industry as we collectively make progress toward meeting our shared climate action goals,” said Doug Slater Vice President, External and Indigenous Relations, FortisBC
No locations for the chargers have been announced, other than that they will be in the southern interior part of the province.
The Government of Canada has invested over $1.1 billion to make EVs more affordable and by expanding the country’s coast-to-coast charging network.
Providing funding for projects like this will help the government reach its target to have all new passenger vehicles sold in Canada be zero-emission vehicles by 2040.
