The Porsche Taycan is being investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) after complaints from owners about a total loss of power while driving.
The investigation follows 9 complaints from owners, and impacts both the 2020 and 2021 model year Taycans. According to the owners, the vehicle loses power without any warning, after which a message appears showing a battery fault.
According to the NHTSA, the loss of power in the 12-volt battery can shut down power in the entire car. Of the nine owners who experienced the issue, six could not restart their cars.
It is not known how many cars may be impacted. According to a report by Automotive News, the NHTSA identified 12,146 Taycans as having possible defect. In a statement, Porsche said it only delivered 6,552 Taycans during the time period under investigation.
No final determinations have been made and the investigation is ongoing. Depending on the findings, a recall may be issued.
