More software-enabled upgrades could be coming soon to the SR+ Tesla Model 3

The Standard Range Plus (SR+) Model 3 comes equipped with what Tesla calls the ‘Partial Premium’ interior. The partial means it doesn’t come with things like an upgraded audio system, rear heated seats, footwell lights, and more.

While it doesn’t come with these features as standard like the ‘Premium’ interior, they are actually installed in the car but not turned on thanks to a software lock.

Owners of the SR+ Model 3 might soon be able to pay to unlock some or all of these features over-the-air (OTA). When asked on Twitter if this was possible, CEO Elon Musk said he will look into it.

This isn’t uncharted territory for Tesla. In early 2019 they added the option to upgrade and purchase the rear heated seats for $400 CAD ($300 USD).

Hopefully this is something that Tesla is able to implement. Not only does it improve the ownership experience for them, it also provides extra revenue for Tesla at almost zero cost as the necessary hardware is already installed.

Will you purchase any upgrades if they become available? Let us know in the comments below which ones.
