Tata Power denies report Tesla is seeking charging infrastructure partnership in India

As Tesla prepares to launch in India some time this year, it was reported yesterday the automaker had initiated discussions with Tata Power on a possible charging infrastructure partnership in the country.

According to sources who spoke to CNBC-TV18 in India, the two companies were still in the early stages of negotiations and no agreements had been made.

Tata Power has since commented on the report in a stock exchange filing. The company said they are always seeking ways to expand their business but called the report “factually incorrect.” (via Business Standard)

“Our EV charging business are constantly examining and exploring various growth opportunities of the business. No arrangement or agreements have been finalised as reported in the media. We confirm that the news item published in the media dated March 12 2021 is factually incorrect.”

Last month it was announced Tesla will set up a manufacturing plant in the Karnataka region in southern India.

India’s Transport Minister has also revealed their intention to offer Tesla large incentives that would make producing an EV in the country cheaper than at its other facilities.
