Quebec’s Electric Circuit added a record number of EV chargers in 2020

Thanks to a generous incentive program, Quebec has a very high rate of electric vehicle (EV) adoption. According to figures from Statistics Canada, the province had 10,378 ZEV registrations in the first half of 2020.

With such a high number of EVs on the road, they also need an extensive public charging network. To meet the growing demand, the Electric Circuit charging network added over 150 EV chargers in 2020.

In total, 153 new 400-V stations were installed throughout Quebec. The majority of them, 137, were 50 kW stations, although 22 of these will be upgraded to 100 kW by the spring, reports Electrical Industry.

The remainder were 100 kW stations (12), and two 25 kW stations in the Réserve faunique La Vérendrye.

Ultra-fast charging station test benches

Electric Circuit also installed two 125 kW chargers to serve as test bench sites for new fast-charging technologies. The first has already been installed at the Porte-du-Nord rest area on Highway 15, halfway between Saint-Jérôme and Saint-Sauveur.

The second site will be located at the Magog rest area at exit 115 off Highway 10. It will feature 350-kW and 160-kW stations.

A third site will be installed in Laval at the rear of the Laval municipal garage, at 2550, Boulevard Industriel. Expected to open this summer, it will offer ultra-fast charging through two ABB charging stations that can provide up to 350 kW each.
