Production of Volkswagen’s next electric vehicle (EV), the ID.4, began last month in their recently converted factory in Zwickau, Germany.
With the official launch of the electric SUV later this month, VW has released some teaser photos showcasing what it calls the “modern feel-good lounge” interior.
At first glance the interior is definitely reminiscent of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, featuring a large touchscreen monitor mounted in the center of the dash.
If also follows the minimalistic design cues of Tesla, with fewer (but still more than Tesla) buttons than you typically see from VW and other automakers.
One of the more interesting design elements of the electric SUV is the ID.Light, a multi-coloured light-strip placed just below the windshield. When turned on it can help drivers know when certain features are active, if the car is locked or unlocked, and it can also provide braking prompts.
Customers will also be able to select a fixed panoramic glass roof as an option during online ordering. At night, owners will be able to select from 30 different colours for the ambient lighting throughout the cabin.
The ID.4 is expected to reach the US later this year, followed by deliveries in Canada in early 2021.
