Mercedes-Benz is partnering with British autonomous driving startup Wayve to bring more advanced self-driving capabilities to its vehicles, with the first production models expected within the next two years.
The companies announced an agreement Tuesday that will see Wayve’s AI Driver integrated into future Mercedes-Benz vehicles, enabling advanced point-to-point driving assistance on city streets and highways.
The deal follows several years of collaboration and Mercedes-Benz’s investment in Wayve earlier this year.
Wayve is taking an approach similar to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD), using artificial intelligence to navigate roads rather than relying on detailed, pre-mapped routes. Its technology is designed to adapt to unfamiliar cities and driving environments without geofencing or location-specific retraining.
Mercedes-Benz has not confirmed which models will receive the technology first or exactly when customers can expect it.
Mercedes-Benz isn’t the only major automaker turning to Wayve. In May, Stellantis announced a similar partnership to integrateWayve’s AI Driver into its STLA AutoDrive platform, targeting a North American launch in 2028.
