As Tesla continues to ramp up Semi production, another North American fleet operator has announced plans to put the all-electric Class 8 truck through its paces in real-world operations.
Paper Transport (PTI), a Wisconsin-based dedicated transportation provider, announced on Monday it has partnered with Tesla to test the Tesla Semi Long Range in dedicated freight operations throughout the Chicago market.
The pilot is aimed at determining how the electric truck can help customers reduce emissions without sacrificing the performance and reliability required for commercial freight.
Unlike long-haul routes that can vary significantly from day to day, PTI’s dedicated operations feature predictable routes and consistent daily mileage, making them well suited for evaluating battery-electric trucks.
“PTI has been a leader in sustainable transportation solutions for over 15 years,” said Tyler Ellison, CEO of PTI. “We take a consultative approach to helping customers identify and implement the right transportation solution for their network. Our partnership with Tesla expands our portfolio alongside renewable natural gas and intermodal, giving customers more ways to reduce Scope 3 emissions without compromising service or economics.”
PTI joins a growing list of companies that have tested, and are continuing to test the Tesla Semi. As more fleet operators evaluate the truck in real-world conditions, Tesla continues to build momentum toward bringing its long-awaited electric semi to commercial fleets at scale.
