Tesla has officially opened its new Supercharger station in Campbell River, marking a major milestone for electric vehicle travel on northern Vancouver Island.
Located at Discovery Harbour Shopping Centre at 1416 Island Highway, construction began on the site in early March, and now just over a month later, the station is energized and live in Tesla’s navigation.
According to Tesla’s listings, the station features eight V4 Supercharger stalls capable of delivering speeds of up to 325 kW. The site is accessible 24/7 and is positioned conveniently in the mall parking lot near Mid-Island Liquor, making it an easy stop for both local drivers and those passing through.
Tesla owners pay a flat rate of just $0.29/kWh, while non-Tesla owners pay a premium of $0.41/kWh, still a reasonable price compared to third-party charging stations.
Filling a long-standing gap
The opening of the Campbell River Supercharger addresses one of the most notable gaps in Tesla’s charging network on Vancouver Island. Until recently, drivers heading north of Nanaimo had limited fast-charging options, often relying on third-party networks that could be slower and less reliable.
That challenge is now largely resolved. With the Campbell River station operational and the nearby Comox Supercharger opening earlier this year, Tesla drivers can now travel much farther up the island with confidence.
The new infrastructure effectively “unlocks” northern Vancouver Island, enabling more seamless trips to destinations like Campbell River and beyond without the need for careful charging planning and workarounds.
Supercharger Plans for Vancouver Island
With the Campbell River site now operational, Tesla has largely completed its charging network for the majority of the island. However, the company is not stopping there.
While no other sites are currently under construction, there are two proposed projects in the pipeline. According to Tesla’s Find Us map, there is one site ‘in development’ in Nanaimo, while another is planned for the west coast of the island in Ucluelet. After opening a Supercharger in Tofino last year, one is also coming to Ucluelet after it won a Supercharger Voting round in Q4 2024.
