Tesla has officially opened orders for the new six-seat Model Y L in Australia and New Zealand, with deliveries expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026.

Priced from $74,900 in Australia and $83,900 in New Zealand, the larger three-row version of its best-selling electric SUV expands Tesla’s lineup in the region by offering a more spacious configuration designed for larger families and passengers needing additional seating. Based on currency conversions, the starting price is roughly equivalent to about C$72,300 or US$53,100.

The new variant is offered exclusively in a Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) configuration and builds on the familiar Model Y platform while introducing a longer wheelbase and extended roofline. The changes are designed to improve cabin space, particularly for passengers in the second and third rows.

According to Tesla’s specifications, the Model Y L delivers an estimated 681 km of range under the WLTP testing cycle, while still maintaining strong performance for a vehicle of its size. The SUV can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately 5.0 seconds and has a top speed of 201 km/h.

Three Rows, Six Seats, and More Comfort

The biggest change with the Model Y L is its interior configuration. The vehicle features a six-seat layout with second-row captain’s chairs and a third row designed to accommodate additional passengers comfortably.

Tesla has also introduced several premium seating features throughout the cabin:

• Row 1 includes heated and ventilated front seats with powered thigh support
• Row 2 features heated and ventilated captain’s chairs with powered armrests and one-touch fold functionality
• Row 3 adds heated seats with power recline, one-touch folding, and dedicated climate ventilation

The longer body and redesigned roofline help create more headroom and legroom throughout the cabin, addressing one of the most common requests from customers considering a larger Tesla SUV but not satisfied with the existing 7-seat configuration.

Technology and New Features

The Model Y L also receives a number of upgrades focused on technology, comfort, and entertainment.

The front cabin includes a 16-inch main touchscreen, while rear passengers gain access to an 8-inch second-row display. Tesla has also upgraded the audio system, offering an immersive 19-speaker setup.

Other features include acoustic glass to reduce road noise, electronic damping, and adaptive suspension designed to provide a smoother ride. Drivers can choose between suspension settings such as “Balanced” or “Rear Comfort,” depending on passenger load and driving conditions.

Tesla has also added Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing owners to power appliances, tools, or other devices directly from the vehicle’s battery. This feature expands the SUV’s usefulness for camping, outdoor recreation, and job-site power.

Additional safety enhancements include extra airbags for the second and third rows, contributing to the vehicle’s 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

The Model Y L introduces new styling details as well, including a new Cosmic Silver exterior color option and a Zen Grey interior theme, pictured above. Tesla also fitted the vehicle with a redesigned 19-inch Machina 2.0 wheel.

While Tesla has not officially announced plans to bring the Model Y L to North America, other than Elon Musk saying it might arrive in late 2026, its launch in Australia and New Zealand could signal a broader global rollout. Canada could be a logical future market for the larger SUV, especially as Canada now allows imports from China, and Giga Shanghai is currently the only factory producing the six-seat electric SUV.
