Tesla is officially expanding into Africa. On February 6, the automaker will open its first location in Morocco, its first formal entry into the African market and another milestone in the company’s global expansion.

The launch event will take place at Anfaplace Mall in Casablanca from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time, where Tesla will introduce Moroccan customers to the Model 3 and Model Y—now the company’s core vehicle lineup following the discontinuation of the Model S and Model X, and the two models that account for the vast majority of Tesla’s global sales.

According to the event invitation on Tesla’s website, “We are delighted to invite you to our official launch in Morocco, which will take place on February 6 at the AnfaPlace Mall.”

While this is Tesla’s first retail-style presence in Africa, the move has been several years in the making. Tesla quietly laid the groundwork for a Moroccan expansion back in 2021, when it opened its first Supercharger stations in Casablanca and Tangier.

Since then, the charging network has steadily grown, with six Supercharger sites now operational across the country—an important prerequisite for launching vehicle sales and ownership.

More recently, Tesla formalized its ambitions by creating a local subsidiary. Tesla Morocco was incorporated on May 27, 2025, and is jointly registered by Tesla International B.V. and Tesla Motors Netherlands B.V., entities that oversee Tesla’s international operations. The subsidiary is headquartered in Casablanca’s Crystal Tower at the Marina district and is responsible for importing, distributing, and servicing Tesla vehicles, as well as rolling out energy products like solar and battery storage.

The February 6 event is designed to do more than simply show off cars. Attendees will be able to meet the local Tesla team, learn about home charging, and better understand Tesla’s broader mission. As outlined in the event description, “This event will be an opportunity for you to meet the team and discover the Model 3 and Model Y. You’ll learn more about what it’s like to be a Tesla owner, charging at home, and our mission to build a world based on extraordinary abundance.”

For Tesla, Morocco represents a strategic entry point into Africa. The country has invested heavily in renewable energy, automotive manufacturing, and export infrastructure, making it a logical beachhead for electric vehicles (EVs). With an existing Supercharger network already in place, Tesla is entering the market with a key piece of infrastructure ready to support early adopters.

The Morocco launch is the latest in a series of expansions into new regions. Over the past year, the company has entered Chile, opening its first South American market, as well as a long-anticipated launch in India.
