Tesla Shakes Up Its South Korean Lineup With Model 3 and Model Y Changes

Tesla has quietly rolled out a series of lineup and pricing changes in South Korea, adjusting availability across both the Model 3 and Model Y. The updates, likely temporary in nature, include the removal of several Model 3 trims, the introduction of new Model Y variants, and price cuts across multiple vehicles.

For the Model 3, Tesla Korea is now offering just a single Model 3 variant – the Performance AWD. The previously available Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range trims have been removed from the online configurator, leaving Korean buyers with only the top-tier performance option available.

At the same time, Tesla has introduced a new exterior colour for the Korean market: Marine Blue.

Pricing also saw a change. Tesla has reduced the price of the Model 3 Performance by roughly C$8,900, a significant cut that brings it much closer to where the Long Range trim previously sat. Rather than eliminating the “mid-range” Model 3 price point entirely, Tesla appears to have replaced it with a discounted Performance model, offering more power and features at a lower-than-expected price.

On the Model Y side, Tesla has also made some changes, adding two new variants: Model Y Premium RWD and Model Y Premium Long Range AWD. Just as importantly, Tesla has lowered Model Y pricing by 3 million won (C$2,800), making the electric SUV even more competitive in a market crowded with both domestic and international EV options.

For consumers, the current setup offers an unusual opportunity. Buyers who might normally opt for a Long Range Model 3 can now step into a Performance version at a substantially lower price, albeit with fewer overall choices. Meanwhile, those shopping for a crossover still have flexibility through the Model Y lineup.

The question is what comes next. Tesla is unlikely to leave the Model 3 with a single trim in South Korea indefinitely, especially top-tier variant, so it would not be surprising to see the return of the RWD and Long Range trims – the bigger question is when?
