Tesla Launches New 30-Day FSD V14.2 Trial for AI4 Owners

Tesla is rolling out another round of Full Self-Driving trials, this time offering a free 30-day test of FSD (Supervised) v14.2 to owners across North America who have AI4-equipped vehicles and have not purchased the feature.

According to Tesla’s website, eligible owners in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and Mexico will receive notifications through email and the Tesla app starting on Wednesday night. The trial does not begin immediately upon notification — it only starts once the required software update has been installed on the vehicle.

While Tesla has used free FSD trials before, this appears to be its largest to date, both in terms of geographic coverage and the number of vehicles involved. With such a large portion of the AI4 fleet getting access at once, the total miles driven using FSD are expected to climb quickly over the next month. At the time of publication, Tesla says owners have recorded over 6.5 billion miles on FSD.

To qualify for the trial, owners must be driving a Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y, or Cybertruck equipped with AI4 hardware. Owners who previously purchased FSD outright are not eligible for the free trial, while current FSD subscribers can simply install the latest version to access the updated features.

Version 14 of FSD (Supervised) introduces several changes compared to earlier releases, including updated Speed Profiles and new Arrival Options. According to Tesla, these features are designed to refine how the system handles different driving environments and destination behavior, particularly in more complex urban settings. The update also includes ongoing improvements to navigation, lane selection, and how the vehicle responds to surrounding traffic, pedestrians, and obstacles.

For Tesla, this trial serves two purposes. It gives a large group of owners a chance to experience the latest version of FSD without committing to a purchase or subscription, while also providing the company with more real-world driving data across a wide range of roads and conditions in North America.
