Kia has confirmed that its upcoming EV5 electric compact SUV will be available exclusively in Canada, bypassing the U.S. altogether. The EV5, which will be positioned between the EV6 and the upcoming EV3, aims to provide an affordable entry into the EV market for Canadian consumers when it arrives at dealerships in 2026.
The EV5 follows Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, featuring a boxy yet modern aesthetic reminiscent of the larger EV9 SUV. It sports a ‘tiger face’ grille, 3D star map lighting, and a rear spoiler designed to enhance aerodynamics. Canadian buyers will be able to choose from a selection of eight exterior colors, including new options like Magma Red and Glacier Blue.
Inside, the EV5 is designed with comfort and technology in mind. A nearly 30-inch panoramic display combines infotainment and driver information in a seamless layout, while mood lighting and soft-touch materials add a premium feel. Seating accommodates five passengers, and the second row folds completely flat, offering flexibility for cargo space or even overnight stays while camping.
The EV5 will be available with two battery options: a standard 60.3 kWh battery and a larger 81.4 kWh pack for extended range. Customers can choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, ensuring suitability for diverse Canadian driving conditions.
Like other new Kia and Hyundai EVs, the EV5 will come equipped with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, giving owners access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network. .
The EV5 will make its national debut at the 2025 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto from February 14-23.
