SpaceX Shop to accept Dogecoin as payment method “soon”

Following in the footsteps of Tesla, SpaceX will soon accept Dogecoin as a payment method on its online store.

Elon Musk announced on Twitter this morning that the cryptocurrency will be added to the official SpaceX shop “soon.”

Unsurprisingly, the price of Dogecoin spiked more than 5% after Musk’s announcement.

Although the Tesla Shop also accepts Doge, there are currently only a limited number of items that you can buy using the cryptocurrency, like the S3XY mug for 320 DOGE or the Cyberwhistle for 645 DOGE (when it is in stock).

Canadians should also be able to buy SpaceX merchandise with DOGE as it accepted on the Canadian version of the Tesla Shop.

Dogecoin isn’t the first time Elon Musk’s company’s have dabbled in crytocurrencies. Tesla became the first automaker to accept Bitcoin as payment for its vehicles last year, but the option was abruptly pulled from the website soon after due to concerns of the environmental impact of Bitcoin mining.

Tesla also purchased $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin in February 2021. The price of the cryptocurrency has swung wildly since then, but is currently around the same level as it was when it was purchased.
