Vietnamese automaker VinFast has announced its Canadian pricing for the two models of electric SUVs that are scheduled to launch later this year.
The VF8, a midsize crossover, will start at $51,250, offering up to 504km (313 miles) of estimated range on a full charge.
The larger VF9 with three rows of seating will start at $69,750, and will be able to travel 550km (341 miles) on a full charge.
Both range estimates are based on the WLTP rating schedule, which is more generous than the North American EPA estimates.
However, there is a big asterisks that goes along with both of those prices – the battery is not included.
Instead customers will lease them from the automaker for an yet-to-be-announced additionally monthly fee. VinFast says they did this to reduce the sticker shock that typically comes with buying an EV.
One perk of leasing the battery is that it will be replaced for free it if the capacity drops below 70% of its original amount.
To help entice customers to put down a refundable $250 deposit for either model, VinFast is offering early reservation holders some extra perks.
Those who make a deposit before April 5, 2022 will be considered “pioneer customers” and receive a credit for either $3,500 off the VF8, or $6,000 off the VF9. They will also receive a mobile charger and free driving technology and connectivity packages.
To top it off, they are also providing pioneer customers with a 7-day tour and seaside accommodations in Vietnam for four people, but airfare is not included.
