Last week we told you about von Holzhausen, a “materials innovation company” owned by Vicki von Holzhausen, wife of Tesla’s Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen, teasing an all-new Model S interior.
The company said more details would be coming on June 21, but today Tesla tuner Unplugged Performance has confirmed a collaboration with von Holzhausen to offer the Banbū leather interior on the Tesla Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y, and when they are available also on the Roadster and Cybertruck.
According to a press release from Unplugged Performance, Banbū Leather is a “vegan leather that is buttery-soft like lambskin, scratch-resistant, stain-resistant, water-resistant, lightweight, and made from [Bamboo] the most renewable raw material on earth.”
The new interior is available to both existing owners and customers placing an order today. Existing owners can bring their cars to the Unplugged Performance location in Hawthorne, California to have them retrofitted with the new interior.
If you want to take delivery of a brand new car with the Banbū interior, Unplugged Performance can do that too. They will place the order and take delivery of the car for you, add the new interior, and then ship the car to your location.
This of course comes at a price. A custom handmade interior with von Holzhausen Banbū leather is priced at $29,995 USD (~$39,000 CAD). A refundable $500 deposit is required at the time of ordering.
Complete custom interiors featuring von Holzhausen, Alcantara and other premium vegan materials extended across the entire vehicle begin at $39,995 USD (~$52,000 CAD).
Customers can also select stitch detail preferences, stitch thread color options, perforations and multiple material colors can be used at no additional cost.
The new interior option isn’t available immediately. Unplugged says the next available built slots for North America are in winter 2022. The company plans to expand to offer the service to European customers in 2023.
