The Tesla Model 3 was the third-best-selling car in Australia in January

In January, the Tesla Model 3 came in third place in overall vehicle sales in Australia.

The top three models per the Federated Chamber of Automotive Industries were:

  • The Ford Ranger with 4,749 vehicles sold.
  • Second place was the Toyota Hi-Lux ute, with 4,131 sales.
  • While in third place was the Tesla Model 3 moved 2,927 units in January.

Tesla had a strong month in terms of sales, with a total of 3,313 sales between the Model 3 and Model Y, as reported by The Driven.

The early push from Tesla may be due to shipping delays that saw deliveries pushed from late 2022 into early 2023. However, time will tell on how Tesla sales will continue throughout 2023, but January was certainly a good start.

Overall, in Australia, EVs had a strong month, accounting for over 20 per cent of all new passenger vehicle sales. Tesla accounted for over 25 per cent of those sales. Other companies moving vehicles included the BYD Atto 3 with 267 cars, Polestar 2 with 164 sales and the Volvo C40 Recharge with 127.
