Tesla’s New Service History Feature Streamlines Maintenance Tracking

Tesla’s latest software update, 2024.38.4, introduces a new “Service History” feature, providing both Tesla owners and service technicians with a detailed record of maintenance and repairs conducted on your vehicle.

The Service History feature is hidden within Service Mode, and captures a log of all repairs performed on the vehicle, making it a permanent fixture that stays with the vehicle throughout its life, even if you sell it to a new owner. Every entry in Service History is timestamped and includes a “Correction Code” that specifies the type of repair or maintenance task completed.

According to Not A Tesla App, who first reported on the new feature, Correction Codes available for a wide range of services, from critical repairs like battery replacements to minor tasks such as adding windshield washer fluid.

While the feature is aimed primarily at Tesla-certified technicians, it’s also available to any Tesla owner who enters Service Mode, allowing owners to keep tabs on their vehicle’s maintenance, whether it’s performed by Tesla, a third-party technician, or even through DIY tasks.

In addition to improving maintenance tracking, Service History could help address challenges that come with third-party repair. Although Tesla has long had internal tools to log service data, third-party technicians and independent repair shops often lack the means to add to a vehicle’s official record. With this new feature, even non-Tesla technicians can contribute to the service history, providing a unified record accessible to any future service provider.

It is important to note that this feature is currently limited to Service Mode, which Tesla hides for a reason and not everyone should access unless you are comfortable doing so. It is possible that a future update could expand these functions to the main service menu, making it even easier for owners to track routine tasks and ensure the longevity of their Tesla.

If you feel up to it, here is how to access Service Mode in your Tesla.

  1. On the vehicle’s touchscreen, tap the Controls button (the car icon)
  2. Tap the Software tab
  3. Touch and hold the large word “MODEL” for two seconds, and then release
  4. Use the on-screen keyboard to type “service” into the access code field, and then touch OK.
