Tesla is planning its first “public” Megacharger station for its Semi trucks. Recent permit filings reveal that the station will be located at 19300 S Hamilton Ave in Carson, California, near the 405 and 110 freeway corridors and the Port of Long Beach. While this will be the first Megacharger on publicly accessible land, unlike its other current Megachargers, the site will remain exclusive to Tesla’s Class 8 electric truck.
According to site plans uncovered by Marco on X, the newly proposed charging station will feature 12 dedicated stalls equipped with Megacharger units, which are capable of delivering over 1 megawatt of power. Tesla has stated that its Semi can regain up to 70% of its 500-mile range in just 30 minutes, making rapid turnarounds viable for logistics operations.

The site will also include a 1,600-square-foot amenity building with a lounge, vending machines, restrooms, and staff parking.
Here is what the site looks like currently, with a large office building on site that will be demolished for the construction of the Megacharger.

As mentioned previously, Tesla’s current Semi Megacharger infrastructure is limited to private use. Stations have been installed at Gigafactory Nevada, where the company operates its own fleet of electric trucks. The company has also built and installed Megachargers at PepsiCo and FritoLay facilities in California.
Despite Tesla’s ambitious plans for a dedicated Semi charging network, the company has faced regulatory hurdles in securing external funding. Twice, Tesla applied for public funding to help establish a Megacharger corridor for electric trucks and was denied. In one case, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) chose to allocate funds to other projects, citing Tesla’s exclusive approach to charging infrastructure as a barrier to broader industry adoption.
In another instance, the U.S. government’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program passed on Tesla’s application, instead prioritizing charging projects that support multiple manufacturers.
Tesla is currently building a brand new high-volume Semi manufacturing facility next to Giga Nevada. The factory is expected to be completed later this year, with the first Semi trucks rolling off the production line and being delivered to customers in 2026.
