Tesla executive Raj Jegannathan has announced he is leaving the company after more than 13 years. Jegannathan most recently served as Vice President of IT, AI Infrastructure, Business Applications, and Information Security, where he played a key role in building and operating the systems that support Tesla’s vehicles, AI programs, and global operations.

Jegannathan shared the news in a LinkedIn post, reflecting on his time at Tesla and the impact of the teams he worked alongside.

“It is challenging to encapsulate 13 years in a single post. The journey at Tesla has been one of continuous evolution. From the technical intricacies of designing, building, and operating one of the world’s largest AI clusters to impactful contributions in IT, Security, Sales, and Service, it has been a privilege to serve,” Jegannathan wrote.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Jegannathan held several increasingly senior roles, beginning as a senior staff engineer working on Tesla’s core infrastructure and vehicle connectivity platforms. He later moved up to leadership positions overseeing cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, cybersecurity, and high-performance computing (HPC).

By 2022, he was leading teams responsible for Tesla’s AI infrastructure, cloud platforms, and security systems, supporting everything from Autopilot development to internal enterprise systems. His organization reportedly included hundreds of engineers tasked with maintaining Tesla’s global computing platforms, networking, and machine learning infrastructure.

In addition to his technical leadership, Jegannathan briefly took on a high-profile operational role last year when he was tasked with overseeing Tesla’s North American sales organization following the departure of Troy Jones in July last year, who he himself left the company after 15 years.

Jegannathan expressed gratitude to his colleagues and optimism about the future.

“To the teams: You are exceptional. Thank you for being partners and for teaching something new every day. As I move on, I do so with a full heart and excitement for what lies ahead. Thank you Tesla for this wonderful opportunity!”

Tesla has not yet announced who will assume Jegannathan’s responsibilities.
