Tesla Supercharger under construction in Campbell River [British Columbia]

Tesla is expanding its Supercharging network on Vancouver Island with a new station currently under construction in Campbell River, an addition that will significantly improve long-distance travel for Tesla drivers on the island.

The new station appeared on Tesla’s latest Supercharger map update last night, but construction actually started at the site in late February.

Photos shared by Roger McDonell on Facebook show early groundwork already underway on the waterfront of downtown Campbell River at Discovery Harbour Shopping Centre (1416 Island Highway). While no equipment had been installed yet at the time the pictures were taken, there was already Tesla charging equipment visible on site, making it clear what the project was about.

The Campbell River Supercharger is being built in the parking lot of Discovery Harbour Shopping Centre, near Mid-Island Liquor. While Tesla has not yet confirmed the exact configuration of the site, the amount of space being prepared suggests it will likely include between eight and twelve stalls.

Campbell River sits roughly halfway between Courtenay and the northern reaches of Vancouver Island, making it a strategic location for Tesla’s charging network.

The Campbell River project comes as Tesla prepares to activate another nearby Supercharger in Comox. That station has already been constructed and is currently waiting to be turned on.

Together, the two sites will dramatically improve charging infrastructure for drivers travelling north of Nanaimo.

Until now, Tesla owners heading toward Campbell River, Port Hardy, or other northern communities have had to rely on third-party charging networks. Those options can be inconsistent, often with slower speeds, limited reliability, and fewer available stalls compared to Tesla’s Supercharger network.

Once both locations are operational, Tesla drivers will have a much more reliable route up the island, allowing them to travel farther north without needing to plan around unpredictable charging stops.
