Tesla stops taking custom orders on all vehicles in Canada, configurator only available in the app

Last week, Tesla stopped taking custom orders from its website in Canada for the Model 3, Model X, and Model S. The company has apparently now extended it to all its models.

The automaker updated its website to show the “View Inventory” button in Canada, making the online configurator accessible only for the Model Y and the Cybertruck. However, the ‘Order Now” button has disappeared for those two EVs, too.

Even if buyers attempt to open the configurator by clicking on the “Order” buttons from the top menu, they are taken to the inventories pages. (h/t: @berserksun)

Given the less-than-ideal attention that the Tesla brand is attracting in some parts of Canada, it is easy to assume the worst. However, it is not unusual for Tesla to try to nudge buyers toward inventory and away from custom builds. The automaker is most likely trying to clear out the cars in stock.

However, this is the first time we have ever seen Tesla completely take away the ability for the average customer to place a custom order for all of its vehicles.

But if you really want to, accessing the car configurator is still possible through Tesla’s mobile app. If you can’t find what you want in inventory, whip out your phone, fire up the app, and customize your order to your heart’s content. However, there is no assurance that Tesla will not block the configurator on the app, too.
