Tesla and SpaceX mobilize Cybertrucks, Starlink, and more in LA wildfire relief efforts

Tesla has stepped up to play a crucial role in aiding communities affected by the devastating wildfires. The company announced a comprehensive relief effort that leverages Tesla and SpaceX technology, and additional resources to support both first responders and residents impacted by the fires.

Cybertrucks as Mobile Aid Stations

Perhaps the most unique was Tesla is helping with relief efforts is by using Cybertrucks equipped with SpaceX Starlink satellite internet terminals, which have been deployed to provide power, connectivity, and essential supplies in hard hit areas.

These vehicles, paired with Starlink, act as mobile hubs, delivering both power and free Wi-Fi to residents cut off from electricity and communication networks.

Positioned across the greater LA and Malibu regions, the Cybertrucks have also created a grid of connectivity for those in need. In addition to providing internet access, the trucks are stocked with water, snacks, and other essentials. The vehicles are also staffed with security personnel to deter looting.

In addition, Tesla also donated multiple Cybertrucks to be utilized as battery banks for Altadena Mountain Rescue, which has been without power. “This will greatly help the team to power radios, computers, and lights as we work into the dark,” the organization said on Instagram.

In order to be able to do this, Tesla has temporarily redirected Cybertruck deliveries in California to support these operations. While this decision has delayed some customer deliveries, CEO Elon Musk said that replacement vehicles would arrive within a week.

Energy Solutions for First Responders and Communities

Tesla’s efforts go beyond connectivity. The company has deployed two Megapack Chargers (MPCs) to locations like Thousand Oaks and Altadena, relieving energy demands caused by widespread power outages. These units provide essential power to evacuation centers and first responders, ensuring operations can continue despite grid disruptions.

In Altadena, one MPC supports the local sheriff’s department, powering critical communications and emergency equipment.

Additionally, Tesla has mobilized portable Powerwall units in collaboration with nonprofit organizations. These units offer backup power for household essentials, such as refrigerators and medical devices, ensuring families can maintain basic functionality during prolonged outages.

Supporting Employees Affected by the Fires

Tesla is also prioritizing its workforce impacted by the wildfires. The company is providing housing accommodations, transportation, and meals for employees whose homes have been damaged or destroyed.
