Tesla has laid out a detailed roadmap for the next several months regarding the development of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, marking key milestones, including when it plans to release the feature in markets outside of North America.
Here’s a breakdown of Tesla’s FSD development plan from September 2024 through the second quarter of 2025.
September 2024: Key Updates and New Features
Tesla’s development roadmap starts off in September 2024 with the release of version 12.5.2 of its FSD software, which was deployed to HW4/AI4 vehicles earlier this week. Tesla says this release has an approximately threefold improvement in the number of miles driven between necessary human interventions.
Later this month Tesla says it will roll out v12.5.2 on the HW3/AI3 computer, a step toward unifying Tesla’s AI3 and AI4 systems.
New features are also being introduced for specific models, such as Cybertruck, which will receive Autopark this weekend, and later in the month FSD will finally go to the Cybertruck.
In September Tesla will also deploy an update that will allow for the Vision-based monitoring, which removes the steering wheel nag, to work even when drivers are wearing sunglasses. Another notable September update is the introduction of the end-to-end neural network on highways, which has so far been limited to city streets.
October 2024: New Capabilities
In October Tesla plans to release v13 of the FSD software, which promises to deliver a six-fold improvement in miles between necessary interventions compared to earlier versions.
The October update will also see FSD gain autonomous parking and reversing capabilities.
Q1-Q2 2025: Expansion to Other Markets
There is also some good news for everyone outside of North America. Tesla hopes to expand FSD to international markets, starting with Europe and China in the first quarter of 2025. However, this expansion is contingent on regulatory approval, so the timeline may shift.
In a follow up post from CEO Elon Musk, he added that FSD could also launch in right-hand drive (RHD) markets late in the first quarter, or early into the second, again pending regulatory approval. This could include significant markets like the United Kingdom and Australia.
