Tesla is showcasing its Semi at the IAA Transportation 2024 in Hanover, Germany this week. The electric truck will not only be available for viewing but attendees will also be able to go for a ride in the Semi.
The Texas company brought its electric Semi to Germany to showcase the vehicle at one of Europe’s most important commercial vehicle trade fairs. The IAA Transportation 2024 in Hanover officially opens to visitors on Tuesday, September 17, but already welcomed the media on Monday. The German publication Teslamag.de reported that stand 12, where Semi is located, was actively visited, however Tesla has not thus far equipped the stands with detailed information.
Tesla brought two Semis, which will be showcased among about 1,650 exhibitors from 41 countries registered for the IAA commercial vehicles show. This year, the exhibition is called “People and Goods on the Move.” According to the event information, the number of companies exhibiting has increased by 20 percent, and the share of foreign companies has reached a record 73 percent, compared to the last exhibition held two years ago.
On Monday, one of the Tesla Semis was in Hall 11 for drive alongs. The second was on the stand in Hall 12, next to a V4 Supercharger. Tesla is also demonstrating one of the electric drives for Semi, which, when fully loaded, will take just 20 seconds to accelerate to 60 miles per hour. However, technical information was not available when visiting the exhibition on Monday.

On Tuesday at 5 p.m., Tesla Semi program manager, Dan Priestley, will speak in Hall 18. On Wednesday morning, Priestley is scheduled to present a case study on the use of electric trucks with a manager from Pepsi. Dozens of Semis have been in use by PepsiCo in California since 2022, providing important data for a realistic assessment of the efficiency of electric trucks.
A recently published study by PwC predicts that electric trucks could become standard on German roads in just a few years. Semi could give Tesla a significant competitive advantage, as the company already has leading technology in this area. The presence of Semi at the IAA Transportation show underlines Tesla’s ambition to gain a foothold in the commercial vehicle market and further expand its market position.
