Tesla Robotaxi expanding to more areas in Austin this weekend; soon to debut in the Bay Area

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed the Robotaxi service is expanding to more areas in Austin this week. He added that riders will soon be able to use the taxi platform in the Bay Area, following regulatory approvals.

The tech billionaire was responding to a post on X when he revealed the immediate plan for the newly-launched driverless taxi service.

When asked by another X user about the launch of Robotaxi in the Bay Area of California, Musk replied that the last remaining hurdle is regulatory approvals. However, he was optimistic that all clearances would be obtained in one or two months.

Tesla launched its Robotaxi service in Austin on June 22, using a small number of Model Ys, with passengers paying a flat rate of $4.20 per ride. Musk called the moment the “culmination of a decade of hard work.” The carmaker expanded the service by sending out invites to influencers who have posted videos of their rides on social media.

The rollout sent Tesla shares soaring 10 percent, as the financial markets reacted to the long-awaited event.

Musk assured the public that Tesla would be “super paranoid” about safety. However, the impending scale-up signifies the company’s growing confidence in the product.
