Tesla Opens First Supercharger on Vancouver Island’s West Coast in Tofino [British Columbia]

Tesla owners heading to the west coast of Vancouver Island can now breathe a little easier, as the long-anticipated Tesla Supercharger station in the popular coastal town of Tofino, British Columbia, is officially open. This marks the sixth Supercharger location on Vancouver Island, and the first to serve the island’s rugged west coast, bringing much-needed fast-charging access to one of BC’s most remote tourist destinations.

Construction on the Tofino Supercharger began in March 2025, following years of requests from local Tesla owners and visitors alike. For years, the lack of fast-charging infrastructure has been a challenge for EV drivers travelling to this remote part of Vancouver Island. Until now, the closest Supercharger was located in Port Alberni, more than 120 kilometres away.

The new station features 12 of Tesla’s latest V4 Superchargers, located behind the CO-OP food store at the corner of First Street and Campbell Street in downtown Tofino. Charging costs are set at $0.41 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for Tesla vehicles. Non-Tesla electric vehicle owners can also use the station for $0.53/kWh.

Tofino is renowned for its scenic beaches, world-class surfing, and the nearby Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, attracting thousands of tourists every year. With this new station, Tesla owners can now confidently make the trip to Tofino without worrying about range or limited charging options once they arrive at their destination.

However, one potential issue with this Supercharger could be parking availability. The Supercharger is located in a relatively small and often crowded parking lot, raising the possibility of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles occupying charging spots, particularly during the busy summer months.

In addition to the Tofino location, Tesla plans to further expand its west coast Vancouver Island presence. Ucluelet, a town just south of Tofino, was selected as a future Supercharger site following a community voting round in late 2024.

Currently, Tesla has five other Supercharger stations on Vancouver Island, located in Victoria, Sidney, two sites in Nanaimo, and Port Alberni. As of the most recent update from Tesla, they are also working to bring one to Campbell River, a location that would open the northern part of the island to Tesla owners.
