Tesla is testing out a new program in another effort to boost sales, offering demo drives at your home during mobile service visits.
Tesla has been employing a number of different tactics to boost sales in the first quarter of 2024, a year the company says will see slower than usual growth in deliveries. Some of these include the return of Full Self-Driving (FSD) Capability transfers, free Supercharging credits, and temporary discounts and impending price increases.
In a surprise move earlier this week, Elon Musk said all delivery employees are now required to take customers on a supervised demo drive of FSD Beta before handing over their new car. This directive also applies to existing owners when they pick up their car from a service visit.
Now it appears the company is testing out another tactic to boost sales also related to service visits, but this time Mobile Service visits.
According to a message from Tesla Service to a customer this week in Berkeley, California, Tesla is “trying something new” and offering demo drives during at home mobile service visits. The message, shared by Sawyer Merritt on X, says the demo drive can be in the new Model 3, Model Y, Model S, or Model X.

Just like the announcement by Musk of requiring supervised demo drives, this program of offering demo drives during Mobile Service visits has large numbers of negative reactions from owners.
Many questioned the logistics of the program. Without further information, it sounds like this will require two Tesla employees to carry it out. One to drive the Mobile Service vehicle, and a second to drive the demo drive vehicle.
Others also raised the point that existing owners are not the customers that Tesla should be targeting to try and boost sales, and that the company would be better off spending similar resources on attracting new customers who know little to nothing about Tesla.
