Tesla appears to be quietly moving Canadian Model Y Performance deliveries back on track, and this time there are tangible signs that the long wait may soon be over.
After we reported earlier this month that estimated delivery dates for many customers were being pushed into the early summer, many of those same Canadian buyers are now seeing a sudden and welcome reversal. Delivery windows that had slipped as far as July are now pulling forward into March.
More importantly, Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) are starting to appear in customer accounts—the clearest signal that a vehicle has entered the final stages before delivery.
A Drive Tesla reader in Kelowna that had a July delivery window shared with us that their app had been updated to show delivery between March 23 and March 31, and that a VIN had been assigned to their order.
Once we shared the news on X, multiple other customers also reported a new delivery date and VIN assignment.
For Tesla buyers, VIN assignment is a significant milestone. Once a VIN appears in the Tesla app, it typically means the vehicle has been built and matched to a specific customer order. While a VIN does not guarantee an immediate delivery date, it usually indicates that delivery is measured in weeks rather than months.
For the Model Y Performance however, the timeline is likely to be a little longer as the vehicle needs to be shipped over from Germany to Halifax, and then trucked or transported via rail across the country to its final destination before delivery.
The big question now for Model Y Performance buyers is whether their vehicle will come with the latest upgrades, notable the black interior headliner. While we have yet to receive confirmation, it will all depend on whether the vehicles are already on their way to Canada, or just rolling out the factory now. That is because Giga Berlin only started production with the black headliner around one week ago.
If you have a Canadian Model Y Performance on order, now is the time to keep a close eye on your Tesla app. If you’ve received a VIN or seen your delivery date move up to March, let us know where in the country you’re located. Your updates help paint a clearer picture of how Tesla’s delivery plan is shaping up.
