Tesla launches the Tesla Universal Wall Connector

Tesla has launched its latest home charger, and its universal nature will allow it to charge any EV sold in North America.

The Tesla Universal Wall Connector is a level two charger with an AC version of its Supercharger Magic Dock. This dock allows a built-in J1772 adaptor or NACS charger to be used.

This tech could be huge for Tesla as it looks to cement itself as the go-to for charging in North America. The price is also hard to beat, with the Tesla Universal Wall Connector going on sale at Best Buy and the Tesla Shop for only $595 USD. While in Canada, the charger costs $785 CDN, with shipping starting in October.

The charger has the following features via the site:

  • Up to 71 km of range added per hour at 11.5 kW / 48 amp output
  • Integrated J1772 adapter to conveniently charge any electric vehicle
  • Auto-sensing handle to open a Tesla charge port
  • Monitor and manage your charging schedule and usage from the Tesla app
  • Wi-Fi connectivity for over-the-air updates, remote diagnostics and access controls
  • Versatile indoor/outdoor design
  • Variable amperage configurations depending on installation location
  • Power-share with up to six Wall Connectors
  • 7.3-meter cable length
  • Four-year warranty for residential use

In addition to the charger announcement, Tesla confirmed that the company would also update its mobile app. These updates include greater functionality, the ability to schedule charging sessions and view data from past charging sessions.
