Tesla launches partnership with Costco in Taiwan [Update]

Tesla has found an unlikely new partner in Taiwan, as the automaker has teamed up with Costco to help sell its electric vehicles (EVs). The partnership is for a limited time, and doesn’t include a discount but instead includes some extra goodies (no, not a free hotdog) for Costco members.

UPDATE: Elon Musk has cancelled the partnership, saying in a post on X it was not approved.

According to the details of the partnership shared by Tesla in Taiwan, the first 50 customers who register at the Costco Summer Auto Show, which runs from August 5 to 18, and subsequently purchase a Tesla will get their pick of some exclusive incentives.

The incentives are in two categories, and include:

  • Charging Incentives
    • 5,000km (3,106 miles) of free Supercharging, or
    • Travel Type 2 Charging Stand Kit
  • Accessories Incentive
    • 10% off 3M Thermal Insulation Tint

While this is the first partnership by Tesla with Costco, it is not the first time one of Elon Musk’s companies have teamed up with the wholesale giant. At Costco stores in Canada, the US, and abroad, members can purchase SpaceX Starlink kits, with the kits including a free month of service.

It is also not the first time Costco has partnered with an automaker, having previously offered a $2,500 discount on the now-discontinued Jaguar I-Pace in the US.
