Tesla Invests $18M to Expand Supercharger Network in New York

Tesla has invested $18 million to expand its Supercharger network in New York. The company has purchased a 40,037-square-foot parking lot in Maspeth, Queens.

The property, located at 48-26 54th Road, was acquired from Wildflower through Tesla US Property Holdings, according to a report by Commercial Observer. The property will likely be converted into a Supercharger station, as the deal was signed by Max de Zegher, director of Tesla’s charging business, city records show. Pinnacle Realty‘s David Junik and Decio Baio brokered the deal for Wildflower. It was closed on Aug. 16.

Wildflower bought half a city block, including the Maspeth property, as a single tax parcel at 54-20 50th Street for $23.3 million in February 2020. In March 2023, the developer secured $94 million in financing for a planned industrial site next to The New York Times printing plant in College Point.

Wildflower is developing the College Point Logistics Center at 28-02 Whitestone Expressway with joint venture partner, Drake Real Estate Partners, and plans to assume management of the facility in 2025.

Also in Queens, Wildflower bought a 5.25-acre site in Astoria in June 2019 at 87 19th Avenue, where it built a massive 775,042-square-foot film studio of which actor Robert De Niro is a co-owner.

Tesla’s new site is near supply management company, SDI, which signed a 41,000-square-foot lease at 46-35 54th Road in April 2016.

The expansion of Tesla’s charging network in New York is an important step. The city encourages drivers to choose electric vehicles, so their popularity here continues to grow. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find real estate here for charging stations. The construction of a new Tesla Supercharger in Queens will have a major positive impact, attracting more customers to the company.
