Tesla has added a unique new bundle to the Model S and Model X to entice buyers in the US to add Full Self-Driving (FSD) to their order.
Tesla has been selling their FSD package since 2016, but the version as we know it today appeared in 2019. Since then Tesla has increased the price incrementally, up to as much as C$19,500 in Canada and US$15,000 in the US in September 2022. Those price increases were justified by Elon Musk as being reflective of the increased performance and abilities of the software over the years, with Musk saying it would probably be worth in excess of US$100,000 once it becomes feature complete.
Despite this, Tesla cut the price of FSD earlier this year, lowering it to C$11,000 in Canada and US$8,000 in the US, marking the second price cut in about 8 months. A few months later and then Tesla slashed the price of the FSD subscription, launching it at C$99 in Canada, giving us a better deal than our friends to the south where it was lowered from US$199 to US$99.
Now Tesla is trying a new approach to sell FSD. Model S/X buyers in the US can now add a US$5,000 bundle to their order, which gives them FSD, free Supercharging, and free Premium Connectivity, but only for a period of three years.
This offer is not available in Canada.
Obviously the big draw in this bundle is the FSD package. Free Supercharging for three years will probably save most people around $750 to $1,000, while three years of Premium Connectivity is just US$297.
However, when buyers are already putting out US$70,000 to US$90,000 for the Model S or Model X, they may opt to just add another $3,000 to buy FSD outright rather than getting the other perks.
