Tesla Increases Cybertruck Discounts in the U.S.

Tesla has increased its inventory discounts on the Cybertruck in the United States, offering up to US$6,000 off certain models, marking a substantial jump from the previous highest discount of $2,000. The move comes as Tesla looks to clear out 2024 model year inventory as newer 2025 Cybertrucks become eligible for the US$7,500 federal EV tax credit.

New Cybertruck Discounts

Tesla’s latest pricing adjustments impact both the Foundation Series and standard (non-Foundation Series) Cybertrucks. The revised discounts on Tesla’s existing inventory site are as follows:

  • Non-Foundation Series (2024 model year): Up to US$4,000 off.
  • Foundation Series: Up to US$6,000 off.

These discounts apply to brand-new inventory units and are not limited to demo vehicles. However, it’s important to note that 2025 model year Cybertrucks are currently eligible for the federal US$7,500 EV tax credit but do not receive any inventory discounts.

The increased discount follows Tesla’s recent move to offer up to C$8,300 in Foundation Series Cybertruck discounts in Canada. The synchronized price reductions in both markets suggest Tesla is working aggressively to move older model year Cybertrucks ahead of the 2025 versions.

Why Tesla is Increasing Discounts

Several factors contribute to Tesla’s decision to increase Cybertruck discounts:

  1. Tax Credit Eligibility Gap – The 2024 Cybertrucks do not qualify for the $7,500 U.S. federal tax credit, making them less attractive than the 2025 models. Tesla is lowering prices to compensate for this gap.
  2. High Production, Uncertain Demand – Tesla has been scaling up Cybertruck production, but demand has not kept pace. Inventory accumulation suggests that customers may be hesitant due to pricing, specs, or the vehicle’s unique design.
  3. Previous Pricing Adjustments – Tesla has a history of adjusting prices dynamically based on demand and inventory levels. The Cybertruck is now following the same pattern seen with Model 3, Model Y, and other Tesla vehicles.

What’s Next for Cybertruck Sales?

Tesla’s move to increase discounts on existing Cybertruck inventory signals a strategy shift to maintain sales momentum. The upcoming months will determine whether these price cuts are enough to balance production and demand. If inventory remains high, further discounts or promotional incentives could follow.

Tesla is also expected to introduce the cheaper Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant later this year, which is also currently eligible for the US$7,500 tax credit.
