Tesla delivers record setting performance in 2023: production and deliveries top 1.8 million

Tesla has once again set new records for production and deliveries. The automaker ended 2023 with over 484,000 deliveries in the final quarter, enough to push their total for the year to over 1.8 million, a 38% increase from 2022.

Tesla delivered a total of 484,507 cars in the final three months of the year, exceeding Wall Street estimates of between 475,000 and 480,000 deliveries. It represents a 43% increase from the previous quarter (435,059), and a 11.5% increase from Q4 2022 (405,278). This is also a new quarterly delivery record for Tesla, surpassing the previous watermark of 466,140 deliveries in Q2 2023.

Tesla continues to lump together the Model 3 and Model Y, which combined accounted to 461,538 deliveries between October and December, a 10% increase from the previous quarter (419,074), and 19% increase from the same time period last year (388,131).

For the first time Cybertruck was included in Tesla’s quartlerly delivery report, but was lumped together with the Model S and Model X under a new “Other Models” category, which total 22,969 deliveries. Considering Tesla likely only delivered a few hundred Cybertrucks in Q4, this was a significant 44% increase from the previous quarter of S/X deliveries (15,985).

Tesla also set records on the production side. Model 3 and Model Y production hit 476,777 in Q4 2023, up from 416,800 in the previous quarter and 419,088 during the same time period last year. Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck production reached 18,212 in Q4.

Tesla 2023 Production & Deliveries

With the strong close out to the year, Tesla easily set new production and delivery records for the full year 2023. Annual deliveries reached 1,808,581 units and annual production hit 1,845,985 units, easily surpassing their 2022 records of 1,313,851 deliveries 37% and 1,369,611 32% cars produced at their four vehicle Gigafactories.

Tesla had this to say on their record quarter and year.

In the fourth quarter, we produced approximately 495,000 vehicles and delivered over 484,000 vehicles. In 2023, vehicle deliveries grew 38% YoY to 1.81 million while production grew 35% YoY to 1.85 million. Thank you to all of our customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders and supporters who helped us achieve a great 2023.
