Tesla’s latest software update, version 2025.20, has revealed a number of upcoming features, and even a new vehicle model. The findings come after a deep-dive into the update by well-known Tesla hacker @greentheonly, who revealed new features tied to xAI’s in-car assistant Grok, smarter energy-saving navigation guidance, and a new 6-seater Model Y.
Grok Integration Gets Closer
Tesla appears to be getting closer to integrating artificial intelligence into its vehicles. As we have previously reported, Tesla is working with one of Elon Musk’s other companies, xAI, to develop Grok, a rich, character-driven conversational AI, for its vehicles.
In January Musk announced the upcoming integration of Grok, and now in software update 2025.20, Tesla has added icons and backend code for more than a dozen Grok “language tutor personalities.” While there has been no official timeline, this addition hints that a release may be imminent. The personalities include:
- Language Tutor (new)
- Argumentative
- Assistant
- Conspiracy
- Doctor
- Kids’ Stories
- Kids’ Trivia Games
- Meditation
- Motivation
- Romantic
- Sexy
- Storyteller
- Therapist
- Unhinged (Grok Classic)
The personalities also come with associated icons, which if we’re being honest, are pretty tough to tell what they mean without the name included as well.

In Musk’s announcement in January, he said Grok would be coming to “all Tesla vehicles,” however according to Green, the feature appears to require AMD-based hardware, which means older Intel-equipped Teslas may not support Grok at launch.
Only firmware for amd-based cars has the grok stuff.

As for when Grok will launch, there has been no official timeline given, other than Musk’s January comments in which he said it would be added “soon.” However, this new code suggests its launch may be close, and Tesla could be getting ready for a summer release.
New Navigation Suggestions to Save Energy
Tesla’s navigation system is already the smartest on the market, designed to calculate routes and estimate range with high accuracy by considering a wide array of factors that impact energy consumption and travel efficiency. These even includes things such as wind direction and speed, temperature, elevation, grade, and more.
Now Tesla is taking it a step further to help drivers reduce energy consumption. The 2025.20.3 update introduces navigation tips based on real-world data, such as suggesting drivers slow down in specific areas where others typically drive more efficiently.
After you have entered your destination, the Energy app in the vehicle will now display a prompt saying, “This route is typically driven at [speed]. Slow down by [x] to save [y%] for the rest of this trip.”
The Tesla 2025.20.3 software update adds the fleet’s average speed for your current route to help you save energy.

6-Seater Model Y Appears in Firmware
Earlier this year we told you about a long-wheelbase, 6-seat version of the Model Y that was rumoured for the Chinese market. Those rumours suggested production of the new variant of the electric SUV would begin in May at Giga Shanghai. While we have yet to receive confirmation of that happening, it looks like it may begin soon as references to the vehicle have appeared in Tesla’s firmware.
Despite the rumours suggesting the variant might be exclusive to China, Green says the code suggests it may also launch in other markets, possibly including North America.
The much rumored about 6-seater Model Y made an appearance in the firmware.

Unlikely to be China-only as some of the speculations said.
Some weird "slow down to save energy, people typically drive this much slower here to save %%" nav suggestions.
