Tesla’s highly anticipated Full Self-Driving (FSD) v14 will not be arriving as originally expected this week. CEO Elon Musk confirmed the delay was due to a last-minute technical glitch, pushing the initial rollout to Monday, October 6.
Despite the setback, the additional time has allowed the company’s AI team to integrate a few more enhancements to the update, which is expected to be the most substantial leap forward since FSD v12.
Musk shared the update on X, saying, “Last minute bug cropped up with V14. Release is pushed to Monday, but that gives us time to add a few more features.”
The software was initially set for an “early wide” release this past week, but as with many Tesla software deployments, timelines are fluid and subject to last-minute changes.
Staggered Rollout and Hardware Compatibility
The release of FSD v14 will first be limited to early access testers—likely including Tesla employees and select influencers—with a broader deployment expected to follow gradually over the coming weeks.
According to Musk, the rollout will follow a phased strategy, with versions 14.1 and 14.2 expected to land in the weeks following the initial launch. However, no updated timeline has been given for these follow-ups.
It’s important to note that FSD v14 will only be available to Tesla vehicles equipped with Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4). Older models featuring Hardware 3 (HW3/AI3) will not support the new software, as these vehicles are still stuck on FSD v12 since last year.
Elon Musk has not shied away from bold claims, and FSD v14 is no exception. In a previous post, he said the update will make the car feel almost sentient by the time version 14.2 rolls out.
