A Tesla owner was in the right place at the right time to capture a small plane making an emergency landing on a busy California street. The plane narrowly avoided landing into a large lineup of vehicles at an intersection, but did collide with one vehicle further down the road. Miraculously there were no major injuries.
The incident occurred at around 6:15pm at the intersection of South Rancho Santa Fe Road and Melrose Drive in San Marcos on Saturday. According to the San Diego Sheriff’s department, the plane had to make an emergency landing after the pilot reported experiencing an engine failure mid-flight.
The cameras in Robert Wade’s Tesla captured the landing from several angles, showing just how close the plane was to landing right on top of about a dozen vehicles waiting a red light. The pilot was able to instead land in the middle of the intersection, clipping a street sign with one its wings just after touching down.
It continued on down the road, clipping more signs with its wings, before coming to a complete stop, but not before colliding with a black SUV, causing minor damage to the car. The plane was a different story.
