The Tesla Cybertruck will no longer just lie there and take it when being overburdened. The pickup truck will now issue warnings when it detects it is being overloaded.
The ability comes after Tesla released software update 2025.26. Although it is not officially documented, the electric pickup truck will now detect if the object being towed exceeds the limit. (via Not A Tesla App)
The notification also offers two suggestions to fix the problem after detecting that the “rear axle load exceeds recommended limit; remove cargo or rebalance trailer to prevent damage.
The latter option ensures the pressure on the tongue is removed if the owner moves some items toward the back of the trailer.
It is interesting that Tesla is achieving this without introducing new hardware. The Cybertruck features air suspension, and it is likely that Tesla utilizes data from pressure measurements to detect an overload. Another possibility is that the truck uses torque and strain measurements on the rear motors to calculate if the towing limit has been exceeded.
Tesla, however, could be using a combination of the two methods.
The Tesla Cybertruck has a maximum towing capacity of 11,000 lbs. However, actual performance can vary based on factors such as terrain, load distribution, and the type of hitch.
