Tesla Cybertruck now eligible for $7,500 tax credit in the U.S.

The Tesla Cybertruck just became a more attractive option for potential buyers in the United States, as the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant of electric pickup is now officially eligible for the full US$7,500 federal tax credit.

Back on January 1 the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) updated their website to show the Dual Motor version of the Cybertruck qualified for the US$7,500 tax credit, lowering the starting price for qualifying buyers from US$79,990 to US$72,490. However, Tesla never updated their website to indicate eligibility, and no customers were able to receive the credit.

This was due to Tesla still selling 2024 model year Cybertrucks, which were not eligible. Now with February underway, Tesla has announced the Cybertruck AWD is officially available with the US$7,500 tax credit for qualifying customers, indicating they have switched to selling 2025 models.

With this new tax incentive, the base price of the Cybertruck drops to US$72,490 for those who qualify. Tesla also offers a US$1,000 referral discount in the US, further reducing the price to US$71,490.

The Cybertruck now joins all variants of the Model 3 and Model Y, and Model X Dual Motor as Tesla vehicles that qualify for the tax credit. When the IRS updated their website they also showed the Cybertruck RWD was eligible for the tax credit, but Tesla has yet to add this variant of the electric pickup truck to the online configurator.

The eligibility for the federal tax credit comes as Tesla expands non-Foundation Series Cybertruck availability beyond the U.S. The company has now opened orders for the regular Cybertruck in Canada and Mexico last night. In Canada, pricing for the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Cybertruck is set at C$114,990, while the Cyberbeast version starts at C$142,990.

However, Tesla has also increased pricing for the Foundation Series Cybertruck in Canada by as much as 11.5%. Interestingly Tesla kept the base price of the vehicles the same, but now makes customers pay extra for the wheels and tires and Full Self-Driving, while also removing the lifetime Premium Connectivity subscription.
