Tesla’s recent decision to discontinue the right-hand-drive (RHD) versions of the Model S and X meant buyers in those markets were left with the only choice of switching to a left-hand-drive (LHD) car. However, being on the “wrong side” of the car can pose problems, like when trying to get a ticket when pulling into a paid parking garage.
Tesla has come up with an unconventional yet practical fix – “The Reacher.” This tool, essentially a grabber stick, has been provided to new owners of LHD Model S and X vehicles in the United Kingdom (UK). As the name implies, the purpose of The Reacher is to assist drivers in reaching objects through the window on the side where RHD drivers would typically be seated. (via Electrek)
The discontinuation of RHD versions was announced in May, leaving those with pending orders disappointed. Some buyers reluctantly accepted the switch to LHD models in order to finally receive their dream cars more than three years after they placed their order. While these customers were provided with The Reacher as part of their purchase, it has received a mixed reception, with some thinking it is a brilliant move by Tesla, while others consider it a slap in the face to owners.
It does however show Tesla’s ability to come up with interesting solutions, this time for a self-imposed problem, and have a little fun while doing it. There is no word if ‘The Reacher’ will become available for anyone to purchase on the Tesla Shop, but if it does, it would not be surprising to see it sell out in a matter of hours.
