Tesla has achieved yet another significant production milestone, but this time the milestone goes beyond electric vehicles (EVs), and belongs to Tesla’s Energy division.
According to an update from the company on Monday, the Lathrop Megafactory celebrated the production of the 10,000th Megapack at this facility last week.

Located in Lathrop, California, this Megafactory is a state-of-the-art facility designed solely for producing Tesla’s Megapack units, which are large-scale lithium-ion battery systems that store and deploy renewable energy. Megapacks are essential for utility companies and large energy providers to balance the grid, support renewable energy integration, and offer a stable, reliable energy source in regions with fluctuating supply and demand.
Since its opening in 2022, the Lathrop Megafactory has achieved remarkable productivity, reaching the 10,000-unit mark in just two years. The factory has an installed annual production capacity of 10,000 Megapacks, which will allow Tesla to supply large-scale energy storage projects in North America and around the world more effectively, from stabilizing California’s power grid to supporting renewable energy projects in Europe and Asia.

As renewable energy adoption increases, the need for stable, scalable energy storage solutions is at an all-time high. Projects around the world are already benefitting from Tesla’s Megapack technology, including notable installations in California, the United Kingdom, and Australia. These projects showcase the potential of energy storage to reduce grid volatility, stabilize electricity costs, and promote a cleaner energy mix.
Tesla’s commitment to energy storage, and the global demand for the product continues to grow. To support the Lathrop Megafactory, Tesla is currently building a second Megafactory in Shanghai, China. This Megafactory is expected to start producing the first Megapacks in Q1 2025, allowing Tesla to supply China and other international markets more easily than from California.
Last week Tesla announced two other production milestones. The Fremont factory built its 1,000,000th Model Y, while Tesla’s 7,000,000th car overall rolled off the Fremont production line a few days earlier.
