Tesla has one more holiday surprise up their sleeves, and this time it is for owners with older cars powered by the Intel Atom processor.
Tesla first announced details of the holiday update earlier this month, sharing a long list of new features and enhancements that would be added to cars for free through an over-the-air (OTA) software update. One of those new features was one that had been requested by many owners for several years – a radar map overlay to show precipitation.
However, that excitement quickly turned to disappointment for many owners once the 2024.44.25 update started rolling out, with the weather map only being available for cars with the newer AMD Ryzen processor. While disappointing, it wasn’t too surprising considering there are a number of other features limited to AMD-powered cars, like the full-screen visualization when parked.
However, Tesla is now rolling out a new 2024.44.25.3 update, and while this is mostly a bug fix update, the company did sneak in one more holiday gift, as the weather map is now available in Intel-powered cars as well. (h/t: @DavidLi54813379)

According to user reports, the weather overlay in Intel-powered cars has all the same functionality as the AMD, including the 3-hour forecast.
It is unclear why Tesla didn’t include the weather radar map for Intel-powered cars in the first rollout. Given that it was released so quickly after the first release (some owners don’t even have the holiday update yet), it is unlikely that it was a system limitation that was somehow overcome in a matter of days, but more likely that it just required some additional programming and testing before it could be rolled out to the entire fleet.
However, it does give us hope that Tesla might eventually roll out the full screen parking visualizations to cars with the Intel processor. This would then also mean these cars could get the upcoming custom wraps and license plate feature.
