SpaceX has announced that Starlink is now providing high-speed satellite internet to more than 400,000 active customers across Canada, just three and a half years after the company first launched its service in Canada.
This milestone marks the connection of approximately 3% of homes in the country, showcasing Starlink’s rapid expansion and its significant impact on improving internet accessibility in even the most remote areas of Canada.
The company announced the milestone on X, referencing a post from Ontario-based iglen Studios, who shared photos of their 4,000km journey across four eastern Canadian provinces towing their Starlink-connected trailer with their Model Y.

Starlink’s satellite internet service leverages a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity. This approach is particularly beneficial for rural and underserved regions where traditional internet infrastructure is often lacking, a situation that is particularly present with Canada’s vast landscape.
By utilizing a network of satellites, Starlink can offer high-speed internet to areas that previously had limited or no access, bridging the digital divide and enabling Canadians to participate fully in the digital world.
In addition to enhancing connectivity, Starlink’s service can enable businesses in remote areas to operate more efficiently, support remote work, and foster new opportunities in education and telemedicine. This can lead to improved quality of life and economic development in regions that were previously at a disadvantage due to limited connectivity.
One of SpaceX’s Starlink customers in Canada is the federal government. Fisheries and Oceans Canada uses the satellite internet service to monitor fish populations in remote areas of British Columbia.
Starlink first launched its services in Canada in 2020. By the end of 2022, the company had expanded its coverage to include all of Canada.
