Rivian is investing $120 million to build a 1.2 million-square-foot supplier park next to its manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois, as it prepares to ramp up production of its next-generation R2 electric SUV.
The supplier park, already under construction, will allow component manufacturers to co-locate near Rivian’s main plant, enabling faster delivery of parts and lowering logistics costs. The company also plans to build a tunnel connecting the new park directly to its production floor, streamlining operations while keeping traffic off local roads.
Rivian currently produces its R1T, R1S, and electric delivery vans at the Normal facility, employing approximately 8,000 people. The new R2, a more affordable electric SUV, is scheduled to enter production in the first half of 2026. The company is currently expanding its Normal factory to accommodate the new addition to the lineup.
Rivian will receive $16 million in state incentives for the project, including $5 million in long-term tax breaks through Illinois’ Reimagining Energy and Vehicles (REV) program. Additional local tax abatements and infrastructure support are also in place, including a $3 million reimbursement from the Town of Normal for sewer work tied to the expansion, according to a press release from the office of Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.

The supplier park is expected to create at least 100 direct Rivian jobs and potentially hundreds more as suppliers set up operations. The facility joins a growing list of investments Rivian has made in Normal, supported by $827 million in previously announced state incentives tied to the upcoming R2 model.
