Rivian reveals massive towing update; plus multiple new features in tow

Many automakers have settled into a routine of regularly improving their products with updates even after delivery to the buyers. Rivian is on the list of such companies, and it has promised a big update coming to the towing feature, alongside a slew of other new features.

The EV startup’s head of software, Wassym Bensaid, made this revelation while discussing his company’s software roadmap at a Q&A session at Rivian’s Venice Hub in California.

One of the upcoming updates is an integrated dashcam, which will be available before the end of the month. Bensaid said he already has it in his vehicle while tests and integration continue. He was then asked if the truck bed cam would be available while towing, to which he said it was a feature Rivian was working on.

However, Bensaid raised expectations concerning the update to towing by saying something huge is coming this summer. The R1T already has impressive towing abilities, but owners can now look forward to significant improvements to the drivability and camera use. They may also expect to add creator profiles.

Other features mentioned by Bensaid include:

  • Displaying text messages on the screen.
  • Using blinker to activate cameras.
  • Valet mode.
  • More entertainment apps (a la Tesla).
  • Holiday-themed features like Halloween Mode.

Bensaid committed Rivian to taking driver feedback and using it to improve their vehicles.
