Rivian’s highly anticipated R2 electric crossover hasn’t been officially unveiled yet, but an accidental publication appears to have revealed nearly everything ahead of schedule, including the all-important pricing for the U.S. market.
A report from ArsTechnica that briefly appeared online before being removed contained not only pricing, but also specifications and trim details for the upcoming electric SUV. Although the article was quickly taken down, the internet never forgets and screenshots and cached copies first shared on the Rivian Forums give us an early look at what Rivian has planned.
According to the leaked information, the Rivian R2 will launch with a Performance-based Launch Edition priced at $57,990, excluding a $1,495 destination fee. That price is lower than many expected, ourselves included, particularly after Rivian discontinued the lower-priced Dual Standard configuration in the R1 lineup earlier this week.
The Launch Edition appears to focus heavily on performance and capability. It will reportedly be equipped with an 87.9 kWh battery pack delivering an estimated range of 330 miles (531 km). Power comes from a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 656 horsepower and 609 lb-ft of torque, placing it firmly in competition with performance-oriented electric SUVs such as the Tesla Model Y Performance.
Fast charging will allow the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately 29 minutes, which aligns with other modern EVs in the segment.
Beyond the powertrain, the Launch Edition will include a number of premium features. These include matrix LED headlights, 21-inch wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a nine-speaker audio system. Rivian is also expected to offer optional features such as its Autonomy+ driver assistance package and a tow package that enables towing of up to 4,400 pounds (1,996 kg).

The R2 itself will measure 185.9 inches (4,722 mm) long, 78.1 inches (1,984 mm) wide, and 66.9 inches (1,699 mm) tall, with a wheelbase of 115.6 inches (2,936 mm). Ground clearance is expected to reach 9.6 inches (244 mm), maintaining Rivian’s emphasis on off-road capability.
Several additional trims are reportedly planned after the Launch Edition arrives. A Premium version is expected later in 2026 with a starting price of $53,990. This variant will retain the same 87.9 kWh battery pack and 330-mile range but will produce 450 horsepower and 537 lb-ft of torque. It will also drop the semi-active suspension found on the Performance model and ride on 20-inch wheels.
In 2027, Rivian is expected to introduce a rear-wheel-drive version starting at $48,490. This configuration will use a single motor producing around 350 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque. Despite the lower output, it will offer the longest range in the lineup at 345 miles (555 km) thanks to improved efficiency.
That version will also include fewer features, with heated front seats only, a five-speaker audio system, and fewer drive modes.
Rivian still appears committed to offering a $45,000 version of the R2, but that model is expected to arrive later, likely in late 2027. It will reportedly feature a smaller battery pack delivering approximately 265 miles (426 km) of range.
If the leaked information proves accurate, the R2 may end up being priced more competitively than many anticipated, potentially positioning it as one of the most compelling electric SUVs in the segment when deliveries begin, possibly as soon as June.
We don’t know yet when Canadian pricing will be announced, but with the current tariffs in place on U.S. made vehicles, it won’t be nearly as cheap as it is being offered in the U.S.
