Rivian Launches Pre-Owned Vehicle Program in the US

Rivian has launched its pre-owned vehicle inventory program, offering a new opportunity for potential buyers to own the R1T and R1S at a more accessible price point. The option to purchase a used vehicle from Rivian is currently only available in the US.

Rivian’s pre-owned program includes a variety of R1S SUVs and R1T pickups, models that are generally considered premium vehicles in the electric market. Typically, new R1T models start at around US$70,000, and the R1S can cost upwards of US$76,000. Add in some of the more premium options, and the price tag can quickly rise above US$100,000.

However, going for a slightly used Rivian can bring the price down, with some certified used models currently start at around US$62,000 for an R1T, while a pre-owned R1S is listed as low as US$73,000.

With these used models, customers can expect savings while still getting a vehicle that has been thoroughly inspected and backed by warranties. Rivian says each vehicle in the pre-owned inventory undergoes a 130-point inspection and comes with a comprehensive factory warranty. This warranty covers the entire vehicle for four years or 60,000 miles (96,560km), while the battery pack and drivetrain are protected for seven years or 175,000 miles (281,635km).

Additionally, Rivian offers a return policy for its pre-owned vehicles, allowing customers to return their purchase within seven days or 500 miles (805km), whichever comes first. Rivian used to have this same policy on their new vehicles, but removed it earlier this year.

Currently, the pre-owned vehicle inventory is only available in the US, and is unfortunately not available in Canada. It is even limited in the US, currently open only to buyers in California, the company’s largest market, and Illinois, the state where its factory is located.

However, Rivian plans to expand this offering to other states, and eventually to Canada, as the company builds its inventory of used vehicles.
