Porsche reveals new Taycan 4S with smaller battery for $119,400

In an effort to bring down the very hefty price tag of the new Porsche Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S ($173,900 & $213,900 respectively), Porsche on Monday revealed a new entry-level version, the Taycan 4S, priced at $119,400 which comes with a new smaller battery pack option and less power.

The base car’s battery has been reduced to a smaller, single-layer 79 kWh battery. You can upgrade that to the Performance Plus 4S, which will have the same 93kWh battery as the Taycan Turbo. Those two battery options will equate to 407 kilometres for the 4S and 463 km for the Performance Plus.

With the reduction in battery size, so comes with it a reduction in power. The base 4S offers 522 horsepower while the Performance Plus option gives out 562 hp. The 4S will reach 100 kmh in 4.0 seconds, which is 0.8 seconds slower than the Taycan Turbo’s 3.2 seconds.

But you’ll have to wait a while to get this EV. Porsche Canada is taking orders now and only expects to start delivering them in the summer of 2020.
